RoeblingFest 2017: Iconic bridge marks 150 years Covington, Ky. (March 23, 2017) – RoeblingFest 2017 will celebrate the sesquicentennial – 150th anniversary – of a northern Kentucky/southern Ohio icon: the John A. Roebling Bridge. On Saturday, June 17, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., history, architecture and engineering enthusiasts, preservationists, photographers, students, educators and admirers of the Roebling Bridge are invited to the 13th annual RoeblingFest at Court Street and Third Street in Covington. The construction of the John A. Roebling Bridge was completed in June 1867. For a century and a half, the Roebling Bridge has connected the North and the South, offering reliable, economic passage from the state of Ohio at Cincinnati to the commonwealth of Kentucky at Covington. A predecessor to the Brooklyn Bridge, the John A. Roebling Bridge is a national historic landmark. RoeblingFest 2017 – a daylong community event – will offer bridge, mural and statue tours, and a silent auction will award the winning bidder a trip to the top of the Roebling Bridge. In addition, a history tent will feature several historical exhibitors, historical presentations and dedications. Performances of time period characters will include the Forget-Me-Not Dancers, Abe Lincoln and John Roebling. All the tours and activites are free. Bridge-oriented merchandise, including the 2018 Roebling Bridge calendar, will be for sale. Photographers can enter the John A. Roebling Bridge photo contest, which opens April 1 and closes May 14. Parking will be available in the Yoke Lot, along Greenup Street just north of 3rd Street, or in the Midtown garage at Scott & 5th Streets. Roebling Point Merchants Association (Molly Malone’s, Keystone Bar & Grill, Blinkers Tavern, The Gruff, and Roebling Point Coffee & Books and Smoke Justis will be open during their scheduled business hours to provide food and drink. The event is proudly sponsored by: Covington-Cincinnati Suspension Bridge Committee, Integrity Capital, Oakley Farris, and National Underground Railroad Freedom Center For more information on RoeblingFest and the Roebling Bridge, visit the RoeblingFest 2017 Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/RoeblingFest/ or the Roebling Suspension Bridge Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/RoeblingSuspensionBridge/?fref=ts or www.RoeblingBridge.org. ###
